“Ginette traced the family history back to the time of the Huguenots in western France, specifically the city of La Rochelle in the now-historical region of Saintonge. Saintonge was a department of France created during the French Revolution; La Rochelle is now officially part of Charente-Maritime.
Turns out that we also descend directly from a Huguenot witch somewhere in the family tree, who was burned at the stake as a heretic.”
